Pavement Parking Petition
Request for Greater Powers for Dudley Council to Enforce Obstructive Pavement Parking
We, the undersigned, call on Dudley Council to seek greater powers from Government to enforce restrictions on obstructive pavement parking.
This petition is aimed at addressing situations where vehicles are parked in ways that block footpaths, prevent access for disabled residents, parents with pushchairs, and obstruct driveways. It is not intended to penalise considerate drivers who park responsibly and leave safe space for pedestrians.
In many parts of Dudley, pavement parking is creating significant problems by:
- Blocking or narrowing footpaths
- Preventing wheelchair, mobility scooter, and pram access
- Forcing pedestrians into the road
- Obstructing access to private driveways
National guidance and legislation are expected to be considered through Government consultation, making this an appropriate time for Dudley to press for change.
We respectfully ask Dudley Council to:
- Write to the relevant Government Minister requesting that greater enforcement powers over pavement and obstructive parking be transferred to local authorities.
- Support the introduction of clear national rules defining unacceptable pavement parking.
- Seek authority to prioritise enforcement where pedestrian safety or accessibility is affected
- Improve safety for pedestrians
- Protect access for disabled residents and families
- Reduce conflict between neighbours
- Encourage more considerate parking across Dudley
